Mike Grantham of Sandberg LLP has recently
appeared on the Channel 4 programme "Help my House is Falling Down" to advise on an old heritage concrete
house with severe cracking. The cause was most unusual, with concrete expanding due to the inclusion of
foundry waste and unburned coal and slag. The result was severe cracking. A paper on the project,
jointly authored with Simon Pitchers, of Craddy Pitchers Davidson and Steve Jones, of Concrete Repairs
Ltd. was presented at the Concrete Solutions Conference in Dresden.
Mike also appeared briefy on a second programme in the series, a
bungalow with severe subsidence problems.

Sandberg LLP, Materials Engineers and Consultants
Professor Mike Grantham, Director of Concrete Solutions has entered
into a Consultancy agreement with Sandberg LLP, of Grosvenor Gardens, London SW1. Sandberg have been
materials consultants and engineers for over 150 years and are privately owned. Christer Peter Sandberg came to England in
1860 as a consulting and inspecting engineer for the Swedish State Railways. With extensive metallurgical
knowledge and experience, his role was to check the quality of rails for export to his homeland. At the same
time, he established a consultancy in London for permanent-way and tramway materials, gaining a reputation in
the UK and overseas. Neil Sandberg, a
fourth generation descendant currently now runs the company in
association with several Partners. Sandberg have a world wide reputation and have worked on major projects
